I started beading when i was a child, infact my mother still wears the earrings I made her with pride (which might I tell you are not the best advert for me now!). Then what with further education, work, marriage, children etc beading got forgotten about, that is until I wanted something a little different to match an outfit for a wedding. The mainstream shops just didnt seem to cut the mustard, and I thought well I could do better myself. Which is exactly what I did.
That was 2 years ago and things have just grown and grown, the more I made for myself the more people were asking me to make for them. My addiction grew, surfing the web for more and more beads. My dinning room was no longer a family room it was my beading parlour. That is until this summer when mum decided to book a table at the Black Isle Show, DAUNTING, but went very well.
The fact is that now we have a dinning room back as I have a work shop in the garden, which allows me to cater for my ever growing market. I now stock 2 shops with a further outlet in the pipeline, and attend a great many craft fairs etc. Who knows a little more hard work and I might even be able to give up my day job. Sheer bliss making a living by doing the thing you love the most.
Lastly a little explanation for all those out there who are wondering where the name came from, I can assure you its not as exciting as it sounds. We had a lovely cocker spaniel who died of cancer earlier this year. Her kennel name was HOT GOSSIP, although we just called her Gossip. She is dearly missed. I wanted to call my craft after her therefore came the name Hot Gossip Beads. Which allows us to remember her with affection and hopefully gives me a bit of luck along the way..................... |
